Some songs come quick and easy. This one was like a breech birth, or maybe even a Caesarian. I must have written about 3 different choruses for it before I found something that worked. The lyrics took about 2 months to write. I just couldn't get a second verse. In the first I had done a road trip to Mexico, so where now? And how would I find place names that fitted the journey and which conveniently rhymed? A lot of scouring of maps of the USA went into this one. By the end, despite the frustration, it was deeply satisfying to get the damned thing finished.
